My mom was in the process of paring down her belongings to the essentials for a move overseas. She brought an old box of photos for me to go through. Amongst the ridiculous school photos, look what I found! I had no idea this photo existed, especially since there was a limited timeframe in which it could have been taken. I was breastfed for the first two weeks of my life. My mom was young, the first of her friends to give birth and she said she had very little support during those two weeks. I can only imagine what that was like, since we now live in a place and time where support is generally more available. I'm so glad she gave it a shot and so glad that despite her challenges (breastfeeding and beyond), I grew up healthy, happy and with the perspective that for each momma and baby, "success" can be widely defined. Thank you, Mom, for giving me so much.
